ORIGIN:
When the glaciers retreated during the last ice age and crushed the limestone of the Northern Alps into dust, hurricane-like gusts carried the resulting lime dust up the Upper Rhine Graben. This dust settled on the ridges of the Kaiserstuhl mountain slopes. To this day, it forms the subsoil for the impressive loess terraces, which are up to 30 m thick.
CRAFTSMANSHIP:
The grapes were harvested by hand in mid-September 2019 and carefully sorted. After gentle pressing, the must obtained was clarified only by gravity and then fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine then matured for 3 months on the full yeast and, after racking, for another 2 months on the fine yeast. The bottling took place after prior filtration in March 2020.
VDP.GUTSWEIN:
Our wines for every day - the bread and butter wines of the VDP, so to speak: Every VDP.GUTSWEIN contains the philosophy and the very own signature of our winemakers. They are often the first wines of a wine year to be bottled and sold - and thus trendsetters of a vintage. The wines grow in the estate's own vineyards. Since our winemakers have a lot of freedom when making wine - the classification regulations only become noticeably stricter at the higher quality levels - there are many innovative creations. VDP.GUTSWEINE are considered a kind of calling card for the winery - ideal for getting a first impression of the winemaker's style or becoming a repeat offender...
