Moving to the releases in bottle, the tiny production 2015 Gigondas Clovis Saurel comes all from the La Louisiane lieu-dit and was raised in demi-muids. This knockout wine boasts terrific notes of ripe black cherry and raspberry fruit, complex dried flowers, graphite and hints of oak, full-bodied richness and a stacked mid-palate. Forget bottles for 2-4 years and enjoy over the following decade.

Jeb Dunnuck 96-98, Lastly, the 2019 Gigondas Clovis Saurel is named after the founder of this domaine and is a selection from the best vines and terroirs. Its deeper purple hue is followed by a gorgeous perfume of darker berry fruits, ground pepper, graphite, spicy garrrigue, and stunning minerality. Reminding me of the 2016, this is serious juice that offers full-bodied richness, a deep, dense mid-palate, silky tannins, and a great, great finish. Don't miss it!
