Deep and spicy with some piquant dried herbs to go with the dark black cherries, cured meats, cocoa powder and spices, expanding into a strong and firm tannin framework that envelops the liquid black fruit on the palate. Some red fruit too. Long, juicy and bright finish. A firm but drinkable Ribera del Duero that can be enjoyed a little earlier.
100% Tempranillo
The classic grape variety in Spain is Tempranillo. It can be found under various synonyms throughout Spain, including as the main ingredient in Rioja. It is aromatic and ripens early, which is also reflected in its name. In Spanish, temprano means (early).
James Suckling 93 points: Deep and spicy with some savory dried herbs to the dark black cherries, cured meat, cocoa powder and spices that extend to a powerful and tight frame of tannins that envelops the fluid black fruit on the palate. Some red fruit, too. Long, juicy and bright finish. A firm but more drinkable Ribera del Duero that can be enjoyed a little sooner. Drink or hold.
Parker 94 points: The second wine from Ribera del Duero is the 2018 Corimbo, produced with Tempranillo from their younger and organically farmed, non-irrigated vines. It is fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in oak barrels, but now the barrels are in the background and the foreground is a mélange of wild flowers, herbs and berries with just a spicy touch. The wine feels fresher, less ripe and extracted, quite elegant and harmonious. A much more drinkable and fresh Corimbo from a cooler vintage in the Duero. Bravo!
