Clear and coolish on the nose, with intense fruit and slate aromas, the 2021 Saar Riesling der Wawerner is a mouth-filling, elegant, refined and savory Riesling with lush sweetness that gives this wine a demi-sec character. The finish is remarkably long and intense due to the persistent mineral structure and complex length. This is a very promising Saar classic from Wabern. 11% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in October 2023.
the Wawerner - harvested in the Wawerner Ritterpfad site - iron-rich reddish slate soil - a steep slope that the crusaders are said to have crossed on narrow paths. Facing entirely south, the mountain produces highly ripe grapes that are ideal for a very harmonious dry Riesling. Yellow fruits and deep slate minerality combine to create a Saar Riesling with complex density and length.
