Parker - Luis Gutiérrez 92,
The 2018 Vetus follows the path of the rest of the 2018s, a cool year that they say resulted in wine with less structure than the 2017s and with moderate alcohol and acidity. I like the elegant and fresh style and the integrated oak. It has black fruit and some notes of herbs, spices and licorice. The palate is medium to full-bodied with abundant, slightly dusty tannins. It follows the path of the 2016. 18,347 bottles were filled in April 2020.
Vetus is the project in Toro from the Antón family of Izadi in Rioja and Villacreces in Ribera del Duero. Their 20 hectares of vineyards in Villabuena del Puente are certified organic, and they also have a further 18 hectares in the villages of San Román de Hornija, Villaester and Venialbo. They produce between 150,000 and 180,000 bottles.
