Niepoort LBV 2020 is a full-bodied red port wine from a single vintage. The grapes come from low-yield vineyards in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro Valley. The grape varieties used are: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Roriz and others. The grapes were harvested by hand in September and trodden by foot in granite lagares. The wine is aged for 4 to 6 years in large wooden barrels and traditional pipas. The LBV is bottled in its fourth year (bottled in July 2024).
The wine opens with a seductive bouquet of fresh figs and a subtle floral character, mixed with lively aromas of red berries and a refreshing minty undertone. The palate begins with a delightful sweetness and rich fruit flavours, developing into a drier and spicier finish. The wine's lovely acidity provides freshness and balance and supports its elegant structure. Despite its richness, the wine retains a delicate and complex profile.
This LBV is the perfect partner for chocolate desserts, especially those made with dark chocolate. It also pairs beautifully with mature cheddar, aged crumbly cheeses and brie.
