Antonio Galloni 93 points: The NV Fleur de Miraval Exclusivement Rosé 1 is the first release from a new Champagne house formed as a partnership between Rodolphe Péters, Marc Perrin and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt that focuses just on Rosé Champagne. In developing Fleur de Miraval, Péters and Perrin observed that they were generally not happy with the way most Rosé Champagnes age, especially the Pinot components, so they set out to create a Champagne that essentially blends young Pinot with Chardonnay from both the base vintage and older vintages. The debut release of Fleur de Miraval is 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir. Chardonnay components are equal parts base vintage 2016, a perpetual reserve that goes back to 2007 and bottled 2008 and 2009 Champagne purchased sur-lattes (already in bottle, but not disgorged). The Pinot Noir is from Vertus, just south of the Côte des Blancs, vinified as a saignée, and then added to a base of white wine.
In tasting, Fleur di Miraval is bright, taut and focused. The cranberry, orange zest, chalk and floral notes sizzle with energy. Not surprisingly, one of the inspirations for Fleur de Miraval is Krug Rosé, and that influence is evident in its style, weight and flavor profile. Because of its recent disgorgement, Fleur di Miraval is extremely tight, but it opens nicely over several hours. This is an impressive debut. It will be interesting to see what future releases bring. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter.
Drinking Window 2020 - 2030
James Suckling 92 points: Aromas of dried strawberries and flowers with some fresh peaches and white pepper. Fragrant wine. Full-bodied with a creamy texture, fine bubbles and a fresh, delicious and soft finish. A friendly and delicious wine. From actor Brad Pitt and his French wine project called Miraval. Drink now.
Brad Pitt is getting into the Champagne biz, and today brings new details of what the A-list project looks like. Pitt and Angelina Jolie , of course, have been making Château Miraval wine from their Côtes de Provence estate since the 2012 vintage and, with the co-owning Perrin family of the Rhône's Château de Beaucastel, quickly made a name as serious contenders in pink wine.
As we reported in January, the Jolie-Pitts and Perrins would be adding grower Champagne darling Rodolphe Péters , owner of the Pierre Péters maison in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, to their ensemble to create a rosé Champagne, called Champagne Fleur de Miraval. While Marc Perrin may be the more experienced wine guy in the Pitt-Perrin equation, he told Unfiltered via email that "the idea to create the only Champagne house only dedicated to rosé Champagne was Brad's idea."

“It took five years of work between the Perrin and Péters families to fine-tune the blend and the whole aging process,” Perrin told us. Fleur de Miraval Exclusivement Rosé, which will be released Oct. 15, is a blend of 75 percent Chardonnay and 25 percent Pinot Noir aged in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for three years. The idea, the team explained in a statement, is to capture the minerality and salinity of Chardonnay combined with the color and fruit aromas of Pinot. The “research and tasting [were] done in the utmost secrecy,” said Péters in the statement, adding that the first run of the cuvée will be 1,600 cases. It's another feather in the cap for the Jolie-Pitt-Perrin partnership that's been on something of a hot streak in recent years, with new wines and even a new winery.
