100% Timorasso
The white wine variety Timorasso is a native grape variety from northern Italy and is one of the rare varieties in Piedmont, where it is recognized in the provinces of Alessandria, Asti and Cuneo. In 1999, the area planted with vineyards in Italy was only 51 hectares, mainly in the Valle Grue, Val Borbera and Val Curone valleys.
The vine has been known in the region around the hills near Tortona since the 15th century. In the 19th century it was widely cultivated in an area between Novara and Tortona in the province of Alessandria and as far as Voghera in the province of Pavia. Over time, however, the variety fell into oblivion as more fertile varieties were preferred. It was not until 1987 that it was revived by the winemaker Walter Massa.
