Parker - Monika Larner 91, 2023 - 2028,
The entry-level Argentiera 2021 Bolgheri Rosso Poggio ai Ginepri has a distinctive bouquet with black licorice root and blackberry confit. There is a strong balsam herb or cola-like component to this blend of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot that gives lift to the bouquet, but that leaves the mouthfeel relatively straightforward and easy. Hints of spruce resin and pine cone also appear. This is a perfect partner to a spicy grilled sausage. 220,000 bottles were released.
Argentiera is on a steady march to quality, and we see improvements with each set of new releases, including some of the exciting results obtained in 2021 (that I would prioritize over 2020). The team is also working carefully to increase volume, having just added capacity for an additional 1,000-hectoliters with a new aging cellar (fitted with 12 cement vats).
Cabernet Sauvignon 40%, Merlot 30%, Cabernet Franc 20%, Petit Verdot 10%.
